At Fenway Park, the Boston faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel. Luis Tiant(2-0) finally bested his New York AL counterpart, Al
Downing(0-1), by the score of 4 to 0.
Tiant looked very much in control throughout the night. He gave up just 3
hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Tiant recorded 8 strikeouts lowering his ERA
from 2.57 to 1.29. Boston had just 5 hits for the night.
Arnold Earley got the save, his 1st. The loss was charged to Downing. He
pitched 7 innings giving up 4 hits and 6 walks.
