Previous message                 Next message Message #: 19179 Message from: Alan Boodman Sent: Feb 23, 2009 Subject: Reds @ Giants With the exception of one streak-stopping win (and even THAT involved a major choke), the Reds foul luck continues unabated....     Game 1: When the Reds only allow 1 run, we score none; when we score 9 times, well.... Mario Soto allowed 9 baserunners in 3.2 innings, and 8 of them scored; Jeff Russell followed that performance by allowing a pair of gophers in less than an inning.  When the surgery was complete, the patient had died by the score of 13-9.   Game 2: Joe Price was nibbled to death by singles (and an occasional gopher) but the Reds came back from a 4-1 deficit - to lose by the score of 4-3 and extend our road streak to nine consecutive one-run defeats.  SFN starter David Palmer, hit hard through 1984 up to now, not only won the game on the mound but drove in the decisive run as well.   Game 3: The Reds stranded 12 and blew an 3-0 lead in the late innings, but all bad things must eventually come to an end.  When Britt Burns' wild pitch in the 14th inning plated Hubie Brooks, the Reds had acheived that rarest of victories - a one-run decision!!!  Final score: 4-3.   Game 4: And in the case of the Reds, all bad things must immediately resume.  Down 2-0 after 1 inning, Cincy worked hard (no team in the majors has to work harder to score a single run than the Reds) to finally tie the game in the 8th.  Having accomplished this feat - akin to climbing Mt. Everest - the CIN bullpen naturally allowed the first batter in the bottom of the frame to triple, and he scored quite easily when the very next batter singled.  Final score: 3-2.   Alan
