Previous message                 Next message Message #: 19402 Message from: Patrick Carr Sent: Apr 5, 2009 Subject: SFN @ MON - split THe first game was a wild one, as San Fran raced out to a 7-1 lead.  The Giants smacked 3 homers off of Bill Gullickson in the first inning!  The Giants really piled on, adding 3 more in the top of the 3rd to take a seemingly insurmountable 7-1 lead.  Alas, SF's Bob Knepper was feeling generous, and gave up 6 in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Expos 3rd baseman Jim Wohlford was the main recipient of his generosity.  The nondescript Wohlford belted THREE homers in the game.  Mike Schmidt added two of his own.  SF's Jeff Leonard also had two, and almost hit a third, bouncing a double off the wall.  All told, there were 10 homers hit before this one was done. And it was not done for a while.  The early slugging gave way to tired muscles and fatigued swings, as suddenly neither team could score.  Finally, in the bottom of the 14th, Harold Baines doubled home Dan Driessen, sending the scrappy Expos out as winners 12-11.  The teams combined for 23 runs and 31 hits! Bryn Smith went the distance in the second game, an 8-3 Expo win.  Mike Schmidt hit a grandslam. Everything else is boring compared to the other games in this series, so I will save space for the other games  :-) Montreal jumped on Mike Krukow early in the next game, staking a 4-0 lead after one inning.  This would soon be another slugfest, with San Fran scoring 3 of their own in the top of the 3rd, followed by Montreal's response, a five-spot in the bottom of the 3rd.  But far be it for a 9-3 deficit to stop the Giants, who mounted their own comeback, taking an exciting 11-10 victory.  Both teams had 16 hits.  Juan Samuel went 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs.  Harold Baines and Dan Driessen combined for 7 RBIs for Montreal. Giants continue their hot hitting and weak pitching, taking an 8-6 victory in the finale.  Rookie Rob Deer had his 1st career homer, a 3 run pinch hit dinger. The Average US Credit Score is 692.
