august 6 Bob Welch went 8 strong innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves by a score of 3 to 2 at Fulton Co. Stadium. Atlanta surrendered all of the runs Los Angeles needed in the 7th inning scoring 3 runners on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Bill Doran who silenced the stadium when he delivered a base-hit plating two runs. Atlanta threatened in the 9th but Los Angeles was able to put down the rally. The winning pitcher was Welch(8-7) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Welch was helped out by Greg Minton who recorded his 11th save. Rick Mahler(11-10) ended up with the loss. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk.
