august 14 The Montreal Expos were able to stop their 6 game losing streak and nipped the Los Angeles Dodgers in 10 innings 5 to 4 at Olympic Stadium in a hard fought contest. The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Montreal was victorious in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Spike Owen kicked off the action when he smacked a single. Mike Schmidt was next and he delivered a base-hit. Andre Dawson then slapped a one-base hit. Mike Fitzgerald was up next and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. One out later, Harold Baines stepped in and he drew a walk. Both teams finished the game with 10 hits. The win went to Mike Armstrong(6-5) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning. Lee Smith(2-7) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 4 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. Montreal came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Tim Raines kicked off the action when he stroked a base-hit. Bryan Little came to the plate and lined a one-base hit. Schmidt then lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 32nd of the season) making Montreal the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration.
