Dave Anderson connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Los Angeles
Dodgers defeated the slumping San Diego Padres in 10 innings by the score of
6 to 3 at San Diego Stadium.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Los Angeles came out on top in
the 10th inning.  Pedro Guerrero opened up the inning nicely when he slapped
a base-hit.  Joel Youngblood was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Anderson then cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 3rd of the
season).  Rick Manning followed and he drew a walk.  Bill Doran stepped into
the box and lined a one-base hit.  Mike Marshall kept the inning going and
delivered a single.  One out later, Rickey Henderson got his turn next, but
he was a strikeout victim.  Overall Los Angeles out-hit San Diego 13 to 10.
The victory was credited to Burt Hooton(3-3) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Hooton got help from Lee Smith who was credited with his 24th save.
Rich Gossage(9-3) was charged with the loss in relief.

Catcher Chris Bando hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI and Lamarr Hoyt pitched a
complete game at San Diego Stadium as the San Diego Padres beat the Los
Angeles Dodgers by the count of 10 to 5.
San Diego tallied 8 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they had 6 base
hits.  That was all Hoyt(12-12) needed.  San Diego rapped out 13 hits for the
night.
Rick Honeycutt(7-17) was hit with the loss.  'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Mike
Tomeo sighed.  'That win feels like a tall, cool drink of water after
spending far too much time in the desert lately.'

In a close game the spectacular San Diego Padres got by the Los Angeles
Dodgers by the score of 5 to 3.
Jerry Koosman(17-7) pitched a fine game.  He surrendered 10 hits and 1 walk in
6 and 1/3 innings.  Koosman mowed down 8 Los Angeles batters.  Curt Kaufman
earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 1st save.
Bob Welch(8-8) was charged with the loss.  'I had a little blister on my index
finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Koosman said.  'I was
lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'
