Danny Darwin(11-10) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 8 hits and 5 walks in 7 innings. Valenzuela was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Los Angeles won it in the 10th inning. Joe Lefebvre led off and started the rally when he delivered a base-hit. Pedro Guerrero stepped up next and he drew a walk. Dave Anderson then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Mike Marshall came up and he doubled. After another out, Ed Romero followed, but he was set down on strikes. Los Angeles managed 8 hits in their victory. Hershiser(6-8) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 9 innings. Hershiser got help from Greg Minton who earned his 16th save. Jim Gott(6-7) was the losing pitcher in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 2 hits in 2 innings. Hershiser didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 13 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'
