april 24 Mel Stottlemyre had a strong outing and Felix Mantillahad 3 base hits as the New York AL Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 4 to 0. Stottlemyre(2-3) was virtually untouchable. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.98. New York AL totaled 10 on the night. Dave McNally(3-2) was hit with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 8 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, McNally was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long night. Stottlemyre brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches the entire game!
