Diamond and ballpark single baseball!
Game 1 Tim Burke went 3 strong innings at Dodger Stadium where the Montreal Expos beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in 13 innings by the score of 4 to 2.
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Montreal won the hard fought contest in the 13th inning. Tony Bernazard started the inning off right when he delivered a single. Fred Lynn next to the plate and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Ozzie Virgil came to the plate and drew a walk to load the bases. Harold Baines followed and he doubled. Vance Law stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases. Montreal won despite being out-hit by Los Angeles 11 hits to 8.
Dan Spillner (1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Spillner got relief help from Jeff Reardon who gained credit for his 9th save. Keith Creel (0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.
Game 2 Bruce Bochte had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the Montreal Expos by a score of 10 to 6 at Dodger Stadium.
Ken Howell (3-0) was reasonably effective in relief and got credit with the victory. He went 2 innings surrendering 3 hits and 2 walks. Los Angeles rapped out 11 hits for the night.
Bert Roberge (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 4 runs and 4 hits in 1 inning.
Game 3 Dave Collins went deep and had 3 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers won a dandy at Dodger Stadium over the Montreal Expos, 5 to 4.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. Joel Youngblood stroked a one-base hit. Two outs later Collins stepped up to the plate and he laced a base-hit resulting in a mighty exciting win for Los Angeles and the 45,271 home town fans in attendance. Both teams ended up with 9 hits on the night.
The victory was credited to Rick Honeycutt (1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Juan Agosto (0-2) suffered the loss in relief.
Game 4 Second baseman Tony Bernazard had 2 base hits at Dodger Stadium as the Montreal Expos beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by the count of 5 to 1.
Montreal started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first scoring 2 runners on 2 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Montreal ended up with 13 hits for the game while Los Angeles had 6.
The win went to Ed Lynch (5-1) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings. The loss was charged to Danny Darwin (1-3). He was knocked around by Montreal , allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
