Subject: League opening in a great retro league
I apologize to those who receive this more than one time because of the mass e-mail to multiple groups...... The Greatest Generation Strat League (GGSL) has a manager opening. We are very close to finishing our draft for the 1954 season. The season will most likely begin in about 2 weeks. GGSL is a keeper league and the 12 teams can protect 25 players before each yearly draft. We play by e-mail and optional net play. We play a relatively fast pace, with each 162 game season taking about 3 to 4 months. GGSL uses a draft lottery (weighted based on team records) each year to select teams for the first two picks. To avoid the trend of a small superstar league with declining parity, I decided to expand to 14 teams for the 1955 season, then expand again in 1962. I have assigned an expansion expert (one of our managers) to lead that effort. The open team is the Susquehanna River Rats. They have Yogi Berra, Gil McDougald, Sal Maglie, and Bill Skowron, along with several minor stars with a little less longevity. Please let me know if you would be interested in joining this great league with great managers, many of whom have been on board since the league inception in 1939. We do not have a league website, but we do have our Yahoo Groups site. Also, our constitution will be revamped over the next several months as we transition into the expansion year, and as I make some changes to the rules.
