Previous message                 Next message Message #: 20240 Message from: Michael Tomeo Sent: Aug 10, 2009 Subject: boa@toa despite no help from the split gods (see game 3) the Sox manage to take the last 2 after a close loss in the opener.   Game 1: Jimmy Key and Al Nipper matched up in a good one. Sox got a sac fly in the first to take a 1-0 lead but that would be all their scoring for the day. Jays tied it in the 4th on an Upshaw double but left the bases loaded. Game stayed tied until the 11th, when Barfield got a split of 3 for a homerun off the pitcher's card. Key went the distance to get the win as Boston outstranded the Jays 12-9.   Game 2: With 2 out and no one on, the Sox got bb,single,bb,bb,2b,bb to score 3 runs before the final out was made. Tony Armas hit a 2 run homer in the top of the 9th to seemingly put the game away but Upshaw answered with a 2 run shot in the bottom of the 9th to make the final 6-4.   Game 3:  Boston missed homerun chances of 14,14,15 and 18 is this game and still rolled to an 8-1 win. Barfield homered to lead off the 2nd for the Toronto run. Boston scored 4 in the 5th and finished it off with a 3 run 9th. Evans managed to finally get a boston homerun off Mark Davis in the 9th. Hurst pitched 7 strong innings for the win.
