June 3 In a two run game the Pittsburgh Pirates got by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 10 innings by the score of 4 to 2. The score was tied at 2 after nine. Pittsburgh was victorious in the 10th inning. R.J. Reynolds led off and he lined a single. Johnny Ray came to the plate and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the season) making Pittsburgh the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Both teams ended up with 9 hits on the night. Jose Rijo(1-2) got the win allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Carlos Diaz(0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and no walks without retiring a batter. The Los Angeles Dodgers eventually emerged as victors over the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 2 to 0. Darwin gave Los Angeles a solid outing. He allowed only 7 hits and no walks in 8 innings lowering his ERA to 4.50. After the 3rd inning, neither team was able to score. Lee Smith earned the save, his 16th. With this win, Los Angeles has a 37-28 record. They have been 3-7 lately. With the loss Pittsburgh now has a record of 24-41.
