JULY 12 Enos Cabell had 3 base hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the pathetic Atlanta Braves by a score of 11 to 6. Danny Darwin(8-11) pitched a fine game. Stadium. In the 5th inning Atlanta scored 3 runs when they had 3 base hits. Lonnie Smith led off and he drew a walk. Smith swiped second base. Two outs later Bob Horner came up and he bombed a two-run dinger (his 23rd of the season). Tim Hulett stepped in and he drew a walk. Barry Bonnell stepped into the box and stroked a base-hit. Owen kept the rally going and smacked a single. Jim Acker was perfect in the ninth giving him his 2nd save on the season. The win was credited to John Denny(6-7) who went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs. Fernando Valenzuela(11-5) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 7 hits in 7 innings. Joel Youngblood dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Mike Scioscia then drew a walk. Sixto Lezcano was up next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Bruce Bochte stepped into the box and reached on an error. Dave Concepcion struck out, unable to help the rally. That early scoring was all that Jerry Reuss(10-6) needed.
