Game 3 Jim Winn completed the game without help from the bullpen at Three Rivers Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Montreal Expos 3 to 1.
Pittsburgh came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs. Winn led off the inning for Pittsburgh when he drew a walk. Joe Orsulak was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Roy Smalley stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Jerry Mumphrey came up and he doubled. Pittsburgh had only 6 hits for the night.
Winn (2-3) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Jay Tibbs (5-7) was the losing pitcher. With this win, Pittsburgh has a 43-66 record. They have been 7-3 lately. Montreal will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 9-1 run - and not a start of a new trend.
