Marcelino Lopez pitched 9 strong innings as the Baltimore Orioles topped the
Chicago AL White Sox by a score of 1 to 0 at Memorial Stadium.
The game's lone run was scored in the 2nd inning. After two were out Boog
Powell lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 1st of the season). That was all
the offense they were to need. The Chicago AL batters went down meekly in
the 9th.
Lopez(4-4) was credited with the shutout. Gary Peters(6-3) was the losing
pitcher. He gave up just 1 run and 2 hits in 8 innings.
Baltimore's manager was very impressed with his pitcher, Lopez, 'He had
unusually good pitch placement tonight. It was almost unfair - but a
beautiful game to watch from where I sat'

The Chicago AL White Sox toppled the Baltimore Orioles by a 7 to 3 score at
Memorial Stadium.
The Baltimore fans didn't appreciate the big day Ron Hansen had. He lined a
single in the 3rd inning, doubled plating a run in the 5th inning and lofted
a three-run 'big-fly' (his 6th of the season) in the 6th inning. Baltimore
had 15 hits in the game while Chicago AL had 10, but Chicago AL had the more
timely hits.
The winning pitcher was Ray Herbert(1-1) who allowed 1 run in 6 innings. Ray
Sadecki(1-2) absorbed the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 7
runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
