You can’t win if you can’t score.  This one felt bad from the beginning.

Dwight Gooden reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts as the New York NL Mets beat

the Montreal Expos by a score of 3 to 0.

Gooden(22-9) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the

Montreal batters.  He surrendered only 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings.  New

York NL finished with 11 hits in the victory.

Tom Seaver(15-13) was the losing pitcher.  Gooden was pleased with his

performance.  He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches.  Just as important, my

location was right on.  The fans really got into the game too - that always

helps me.  Now, if I can only do that again in my next outing.'
