may 22 Larry Dierker hurled a 3 hitter and first baseman WillieMcCovey hit a homerun and had 4 RBI at Candlestick Park where the San Francisco Giants beat the New York AL Yankees by the score of 9 to 1. McCovey helped send the fans home happy. He laced a base-knock knocking in a run in the 1st inning, slapped a base-hit in the 3rd inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 13th of the season) in the 6th inning. San Francisco had a total of 15 hits for the game. Dierker(1-4) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Jim Bouton(1-1) was tagged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings. 'We didn't have a whole lot of chances tonight,' New York AL's manager said. 'Dierker just was too much for our guys.'
