Alan,
Just to confirm: game two is at Seattle. I should play this game, correct?

[Attachment(s) from Alan Boodman included below](Jeff: I attached an LZP file since TOA made a lineup change for game
2. Starters should be Key vs. Moore.) --------------------------------------------- You'd think that a contest where one team outhits the other 16-5 would be a
laugher, but in this case you'd be wrong because the Jays almost turned that
massive advantage into a massive choke. Toronto started well both at the plate and on the mound. In the
first, Rance Mulliniks singled and was balked to second by SEA starter Charlie
Hough. A blown-x single by Glenn Davis in right field gave the visitors a
1-0 lead. Glenn Wilson's solo homer (just barely clearing the wall) in the second and
George Bell's 3-run shot in the 3rd made the score 5-0, while TOA starter Dave
Stieb held the Mariners hitless through the first three frames. Stieb was not without his challenges, however: Wilson booted a 2-base error
in RF in the 2nd and Jack Perconte then walked but a groundout ended that
threat. In the SEA 4th, a leadoff double and a walk put Stieb in hot water, but
again he escaped without damage. There was no scoring in the middle innings and we passed the 7th inning
stretch with the score still 5-0 and both starting pitchers still in the
game. Now that we were in the home stretch, Stieb took that as a cue to
begin giving up bombs galore: the first three batters of the SEA 7th each
got split card chances at gopher balls, but only one delivered: Glenn Davis'
leadoff blast was caught at the wall; Jack Perconte (!) then cleared the wall to
make the score 5-1; Craig Reynolds' long drive ricocheted around for a
triple. One out later Phil Bradley singled home Reynolds and the score was 5-2
after 7 and the Jays did not bother to threaten in the 8th. Jim Presley began the SEA 8th with a lineout, but Stieb finally hit
the wall at that point. Stieb issued back-to-back walks to Alvin Davis
& Gorman Thomas and was yanked in favor of Bill Caudill with the tying run
at the plate, despite TOA's 13-5 (at the time) advantage in hits. After a typical first-pitch passed ball moved both runners into
scoring position, Caudill threw three straight strikes past Davis. Two
outs, and Wayne Gross is called upon to pinch hit for Slugger Perconte. The Jays countered with lefty reliever Mark Davis, and the M's switched
over to Kevin Bass at the plate. Davis took the mound, went into his delivery - and choked hard. Dice roll 4-10: HR 1-17, fb(B) 18-20. A split card of 18 saved the game and perhaps the season for Toronto;
chokes around here are always quite contagious. Hough pitched into the 9th but allowed his third gopher of the day,
this one a 2-run shot by Jesse Barfield, making the score 7-2. Davis walked the leadoff batter in the SEA 9th but got a DP and then
retired Bradley for the final out, as the Jays win our first-ever postseason
contest by the closest "7-2" margin in history. Alan
