Alan – I will be out of town until December 27th. I will need my week 3 road games auto played for me. Thanks, Sb
Game 1 Harold Baines launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Floyd Youmans pitched 6 strong innings as the Montreal Expos beat the Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 7 to 1.
Baines provided much of the offense. He cracked a solo homerun in the 2nd inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 4th inning, stroked a single in the 5th inning and hit a bases-empty home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 8th inning. Chicago NL was out-hit by Montreal , 12 hits to 5.
Youmans (2-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 6 innings. Mark Huismann recorded his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Mike Witt (0-3). He gave up 6 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.
'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Baines said. 'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.' ` Game 2 39,914 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The Chicago NL Cubs topped the Montreal Expos by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Greg Swindell (1-1) had a solid outing for Chicago NL. He went 7 and 2/3 innings surrendering 7 hits and no walks improving his ERA from 3.00 to 2.70. Montreal had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Tom Niedenfuer got the save, his 2nd. Neal Heaton (1-1) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 4 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings. Stan Berger was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
Game 3 The Chicago NL Cubs defeated the Montreal Expos by a score of 4 to 1 at Wrigley Field.
In the 3rd inning Chicago NL scored 3 runs when they had 4 base hits. After an out was recorded, Ryne Sandberg opened up the rally as he doubled. Joe Carter followed and he lined a single. Jody Davis then lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the season). Shawon Dunston came up and he doubled. After another out, Andre Dawson was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. That was all Dennis Eckersley (2-1) needed. Chicago NL managed 10 hits in their victory.
Ernie Camacho was credited with his 1st save. Jay Tibbs (1-1) took the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Game 4 The Montreal Expos nipped the Chicago NL Cubs 4 to 3 at Wrigley Field in a hard fought contest.
