At Three Rivers Stadium, the Pittsburgh faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Orel Hershiser(3-0) finally bested his Pittsburgh
counterpart, Tom Candiotti(0-6), by the score of 2 to 1.
Los Angeles came up with 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning.  Lee Smith
earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 3rd save. 
Candiotti was given the loss.  He gave up only 3 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.

Steve Garvey went yard and had 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the
Los Angeles Dodgers in 13 innings by a score of 10 to 9 at Three Rivers
Stadium.
The score was tied at 8 after nine.  Pittsburgh won it in the 13th inning.
Barry Bonds drew a walk.  Roy Smalley next to the plate and he lined a
one-base hit.  After an out was recorded, Johnny Ray stepped up to the plate
and he drew a walk.  Larry Parrish followed, but he was set down on strikes.
R.J. Reynolds stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases.  Dave
Henderson continued the rally and drew a walk resulting in an exciting win
for Pittsburgh and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Pittsburgh totaled 15 hits on the night. 
Don Robinson(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Greg
Minton(0-3) was hit with the loss in relief.

The Los Angeles Dodgers cruised to a 9 to 3 victory over the Pittsburgh
Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium.
Rick Honeycutt(2-2) pitched well for Los Angeles in their victory.  He was
reached for 5 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.  Los Angeles had 13 hits overall,
while Pittsburgh had 8. 
Jerry Reuss was credited with his 1st save.  The loss was charged to Urbano
Lugo(0-1).  He was unable to control the Los Angeles offense and allowed 7
hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
