Mike Scott mowed down 12 Los Angeles batters at Shea Stadium where the New
York NL Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in 14 innings by the score of 3 to
2.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. New York NL came out on top in
the 14th inning. Davey Lopes banged out a single. Kevin Mitchell was next
to the plate, but was promptly struck out. One out later, Strawberry stepped
in and he stole second base. Ed Hearn was up next and he doubled giving New
York NL the victory as 32,275 happy fans celebrated wildly. New York NL had
9 hits for the afternoon.
Doug Sisk(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing no
runs. Brian Holton(0-1) was given the loss in relief.
