Subject: SFN at PIT - SF's Don Robinson has disastrous outing of epic, record-setting proportions!

The opener was cruising along, a fairly entertaining and high-scoring affair, 7-5 SF lead going into the bottom of the 6th when all hell broke loose!!!  A tiring Vida Blue gave way to SF newcomer Don Robinson, a member of Pittsburgh just days ago.  He proceeded to get hammered and gave up 2 runs in the 6th and 9 in the 7th to put the game out of reach.  After a feeble top of the 8th from the SF offense, Robinson went about the Herculean task of getting through the bottom of the 8th.  After several walks and 1 run in, Donnie struck out Barry Bonds for out #2.  I figured, let this guy mop up the inning and we'll take our loss.  What unfolded was the most ghastly and unrealistic series of events I have ever seen in Strat.  The next FIFTEEN batters all got on base, a unlikely scenario that became as comic as it was tragic. It's not like Robinson is the worst pitcher ever, but he must have been throwing underhand.  I honestly lost track of what was going on I just kept hitting the button and cursing batter after batter after batter.  It  became a test to see just how ridiculously tough it could be to get one more out.  By the time my frazzled nerves brought me to my senses, 16 runs had crossed the plate!  It was 31-7.  Robinson had given up 27 runs in just 2 2/3 innings!!!  I apologize for violating the integrity of the league by not taking him out, but I was just truly stunned and was determined to get him to finish the #*$*@ inning!  I could not believe he couldn't get just one more  out.  Anyways, hats off to the Pirates, there was not a zero in their boxscore as everyone had at least one hit, run, and rbi.  Jim Morrison played like the Lizard King he is, belting 3 HRs and racking up 7 RBIs.

Pitt's Tom Candiotti held San Francisco at bay in the second game, limiting the Giants to 2 runs on 7 hits.  SF starter Mike Krukow was betrayed by a couple of key infield errors, Pitt takes it 5-2.  Youngster Barry Bonds hit a homer.  Looks like a fine young player, I jotted his name in my GM book just in case he ever becomes available.

Pittsburgh continued to own the Giants in the 3rd game.  Mike Bielecki had a fine outing, 8 innings with just 2 runs allowed (one unearned).  Andy Van Slyke and Jim Morrison each knocked in two for the Buccos. the 5-2 winners.

SF managed to escape this House of Horrors with one victory, taking the finale 7-2.  Dan Gladden belted two homers and Candy Maldonado hit one of his own.  Dave Dravecky picked up his 10th win of the season.
