Game 1 In a tight game it was the Los Angeles Dodgers 4, the Montreal Expos 2 at Dodger Stadium.
Los Angeles brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning. Overall Los Angeles out-hit Montreal 10 to 6. The win went to Danny Darwin (9-3) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Darwin was helped out by Lee Smith who recorded his 23rd save. Tim Burke (7-6) was the losing pitcher in relief.
Game 2 Tim Raines had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Dodger Stadium as the Montreal Expos staged a comeback win over the Los Angeles Dodgers by the count of 4 to 3.
Montreal won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Harold Baines opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Two outs later Andres Galarraga stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Raines then doubled. Tony Bernazard came up and he lined a single. Los Angeles was out-hit by Montreal , 10 hits to 7.
The victory was credited to Mark Huismann (6-3) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Jeff Reardon earned his 28th save. Danny Darwin (9-4) was the losing pitcher in relief.
Darwin was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
Game 3 In a lop-sided win the Los Angeles Dodgers ripped the Montreal Expos by a 9 to 4 count.
The Los Angeles fans enjoyed the offense provided by Reggie Williams. He lashed a single in the 4th inning, doubled with all three runners coming home in the 5th inning and clubbed a three-run home run in the 6th inning. Los Angeles had a total of 9 hits for the game.
Rick Honeycutt (8-8) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Greg Minton was credited with his 4th save. Neal Heaton (13-8) was hit with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
'I had a big day, but there's a lot of credit to go around' Williams said. 'We played well together as a team.'
Game 4 Left fielder Tim Raines had 2 base hits as the Montreal Expos defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 3 to 2 at Dodger Stadium.
In the 6th inning Montreal scored 2 runs. The key offensive moment was provided by Fred Lynn who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he cleared the fences for a two-run home run. Los Angeles made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Jay Tibbs(14-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing 1 run. Tibbs got relief help from Jeff Reardon who gained credit for his 29th save. Orel Hershiser(10-12) absorbed the loss.
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Billy Vanson 'But we have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
