Right fielder Tony Gwynn had 2 base hits as the San Diego Padres topped the
Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 5 to 4 at San Diego Stadium.
Mark Davis(1-0) was the winning pitcher with a solid relief performance.  He
surrendered only 1 hit and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.  Los Angeles had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short. 
Davis was helped out by Jerry Don Gleaton who recorded his 1st save.  Lee
Smith(0-1) took the loss in relief.  He surrendered 3 hits and no walks in 1
inning.

The San Diego Padres edged the Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Stadium by the
score of 3 to 2.

Benito Santiago blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the San Diego Padres beat
the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 8 to 5.
It was a good day for San Diego thanks to Santiago.  He doubled in the 2nd
inning, doubled plating two runs in the 3rd inning and smashed a solo-shot
out of the park in the 8th inning.  The game was a wild affair with the lead
changing hands 5 times. 
The win went to Mark Davis(2-0) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Jerry Don
Gleaton earned his 2nd save.  Ken Howell(0-1) took the loss in relief.  His
ERA increased from 4.50 to 15.00 as he allowed 4 runs in 1 inning.
