Game three was an irony deluxe. Floyd Rayford hits a grand slam home run and throws out 4 of 5 stolen base attempts. Then he makes two errors that cost us the game 8 to 7. I love Strat!
Game 3 The Pittsburgh Pirates ended a long winless drought and edged the Montreal Expos at THREE RIVERS STADIUM by the score of 8 to 7.
The deciding run was scored by Pittsburgh in the 8th. Sid Bream laced a base-knock. After an out was recorded, Bream stole second with some aggressive base running. Mike Lavalliere then laced a one-base hit, and an error was also committed. Mel Hall was up next and he lashed a single. R.J. Reynolds got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 5 times.
Vicente Palacios (2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Palacios got help from Jeff Robinson who earned his 4th save. Randy St. Claire (0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits and 1 walk.
Game 1 Second baseman Vance Law cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at THREE RIVERS STADIUM where the Montreal Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 3.
Juan Nieves (1-1) gave a fine effort for Montreal . He went 6 innings surrendering 5 hits and 2 walks and gave up 2 homeruns. Montreal had 8 hits for the game and Pittsburgh had 5.
Nieves got relief help from Tim Burke who gained credit for his 1st save. Mike Bielecki (1-1) absorbed the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.
Game 2 Tim Raines ripped a bases loaded blast at THREE RIVERS STADIUM where the Montreal Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 6 to 2.
Raines had a big day with his bat. He launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun in the 5th inning and laced a one-base hit scoring a run in the 9th inning. Pittsburgh was out-hit by Montreal , 11 hits to 8.
Neal Heaton (3-0) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Mike Dunne (0-2) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in 7 innings.
Game 4 Center fielder Mitch Webster went deep and had 4 RBI at THREE RIVERS STADIUM as the Montreal Expos, running on all cylinders, ripped the Pittsburgh Pirates by a large 13 to 2 margin.
Webster was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He doubled in the 2nd inning, doubled which was good for two runs in the 3rd inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the 7th inning. Montreal had 16 hits overall, while Pittsburgh had 9.
The victory went to Dennis Martinez (1-0) who went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs. The loss was charged to Bob Sebra (0-2). He was unable to control the Montreal offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
