Tommy John(11-10) earned his pay with a solid performance for John. He went 7 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 walks. New York AL made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Hoyt Wilhelm recorded the save, his 23rd. Al Downing(9-13) was hit with the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. Despite losing New York AL's manager was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.' Jon Fellows Chicago White Sox "We Play Monetarist-Ball!" |
