Andre Dawson slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at WRIGLEY FIELD as the Chicago
NL Cubs won in their last at-bat beating the Los Angeles Dodgers by the count
of 6 to 5.
The game was decided in the 9th inning.  Dawson smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' resulting in a mighty exciting win for Chicago NL and the 29,652
home town fans in attendance.  This was a game of many highs and lows for the
home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.
The win was credited to Les Lancaster(8-6) who went 2/3 of an inning allowing
no runs. Greg Minton(3-4) took the loss in relief.  'The ball was jumping off
my bat' Dawson said.  'I didn't do anything differently, it's the same way I
always approach the game.

Center fielder John Shelby had 4 hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the
pathetic Chicago NL Cubs in 11 innings by a score of 5 to 4 at WRIGLEY
FIELD.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings.  Los Angeles won the

Gibson ripped a solo home run.  After another out, Shelby followed, but he
was set down on strikes.  Chicago NL could do no damage in the bottom of the
11th.
Brian Holton(4-2) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Lee Smith
was credited with his 24th save.  Les Lancaster(8-7) ended up with the loss

Center fielder John Shelby launched 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Los
Angeles Dodgers clobbered the outmatched woeful Chicago NL Cubs, 11 to
1.
Shelby was a source of great heartache for the Chicago NL faithful all day.
He just kept pounding out hits! He blasted a solo shot in the 1st inning,
delivered a single bringing in a run in the 3rd inning, smashed a two-run
homer in the 5th inning and stroked a one-base hit which was good for two
runs in the 6th inning.  Los Angeles dominated offensively as they scored in
6 different innings.
Jim Deshaies(6-13) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing
1 run. The loss was charged to Greg Swindell(2-10).  With this win, Los
Angeles has a 54-88 record.  They have been 4-6 lately.  With the loss, the
Chicago NL ballclub's record is 52-90, worst in the division.
