At RIVERFRONT STADIUM, the Cincinnati fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Tom Hume(1-2) finally bested his Cincinnati opposite, Danny Jackson(16-7), by
the score of 3 to 1.
Los Angeles tallied 2 runs in the 3rd inning. John Shelby led off and he
reached on an error. Milt Thompson stepped up next and he slapped a
base-hit. Thompson got a good lead and stole second. Craig Shipley
followed, but he was set down on strikes. Eddie Murray came to the plate and
would ground out. Brook Jacoby kept the rally going and reached on an error.
The early run support proved sufficient for Hume and Los Angeles. That was
all the run support Hume required. Los Angeles had only 6 hits for the game.
Hume got help from Lee Smith who earned his 25th save. Jackson suffered the
loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 5 hits in 6 and 2/3 innings.
