In a dramatic ending at Comiskey Park the Chicago AL White Sox won in their
last at-bat beating the New York AL Yankees by the count of 5 to 4.

Chicago AL won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.  After an
out was recorded, Floyd Robinson smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 16th of
the season) giving Chicago AL the win much to the delight of the home town
crowd.  Chicago AL totaled 8 on the night.

Hoyt Wilhelm(6-7) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Steve
Hamilton(3-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.  Chicago AL now has a
record of 71-71.  New York AL has a record of 64-78 after the loss.

Sam McDowell whitewashed Chicago AL on 3 hits at Comiskey Park as the New York
AL Yankees beat the Chicago AL White Sox by the count of 5 to
0.

McDowell(14-10) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Chicago AL offense.
He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 8 walks in 9 innings.  McDowell
struckout 14 Chicago AL batters.  New York AL rapped out 10 hits for the
night.

Turk Farrell(11-13) absorbed the loss.  McDowell was pleased with his
performance.  He noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches.  Just as
important, my location was right on.'

In a great finish the New York AL Yankees came back in the top of the ninth
and held on to win over the Chicago AL White Sox by a score of 5 to 3 at
Comiskey Park.

New York AL had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 3
runs on 3 hits.  Mickey Mantle got things going when he drew a walk.  Roy
White came next and he doubled.  Hoyt Wilhelm then let loose a wild pitch
scoring a run.  Tom Tresh was up next and he drew a walk.  Tony Kubek came to
the plate and banged out a single to load the bases.  Bobby Richardson added
to the uprising and singled as two more runners crossed the plate.
Richardson took second on the throw.  New York AL totaled 9 on the afternoon.

The victory went to Steve Hamilton(4-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing
no runs. Hal Reniff earned his 1st save.  Billy Hoeft(4-1) was the losing
pitcher in relief.  By surrending 2 runs in 1 inning his ERA jumped from 3.19
to 3.46.

'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Kubek said. 'If you just
keep trying good things can happen!'
