august 25 In a dramatic ending at Comiskey Park the Chicago AL White Sox won in their last at-bat beating the New York AL Yankees by the count of 5 to 4. Chicago AL won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Floyd Robinson smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 16th of the season) giving Chicago AL the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Chicago AL totaled 8 on the night. Hoyt Wilhelm(6-7) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Steve Hamilton(3-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. Chicago AL now has a record of 71-71. New York AL has a record of 64-78 after the loss. New York AL had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits. Mickey Mantle got things going when he drew a walk. Roy White came next and he doubled. Hoyt Wilhelm then let loose a wild pitch scoring a run. Tom Tresh was up next and he drew a walk. Tony Kubek came to the plate and banged out a single to load the bases. Bobby Richardson added to the uprising and singled as two more runners crossed the plate. Richardson took second on the throw. New York AL totaled 9 on the afternoon. The victory went to Steve Hamilton(4-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. Hal Reniff earned his 1st save. Billy Hoeft(4-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. By surrending 2 runs in 1 inning his ERA jumped from 3.19 to 3.46. 'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Kubek said. 'If you just keep trying good things can happen!'
