Minnesota started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first plating an isolated run. Boston was out-hit by Minnesota, 13 hits to 9. Sid Fernandez(1-0) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Jeff Reardon recorded the save, his 2nd. The losing pitcher was Bruce Hurst(0-2). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. The win by Minnesota is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in recent days. Their record now stands at 4-8 - only 1-9 in their last ten games. Mike Tomeo was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 1-9 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
