Subject: DEA at BAA results
The first 2 1/2 games were netplayed until technical difficulties forced me to finish the series myself. John Orsino is now officially on my s**t list along with Luis Aparicio, Dick Brown, and a whole host of White Sox guys...HAHAHA Even with the disappointing split the Tigers are still within 2 games (i think) of the Twins going into the seasons' final week. The Tigers play 3 games vs BOA and 4 games at NYA The Twins play 3 games vs WAA and 4 games at KCA Steve PreSMILEY DEA GAME ONE Baltimore 9, Detroit 7 The Tigers jump out to an early 6-2 only to see the O's score 4 in the 4th to tie it at 6. A Dick McAuliffe double gives the Tigers the lead in the 8th and it looked like a sure Tigers victory. But heartbreak of all heartbreaks the Orioles John Orsino hits a 3-run HR off of reliever Ron Kline in the bottom of the ninth to just about sink the Tigers' pennant hopes. GAME TWO Detroit 4, Baltimore 2 Denny McLain pitched great in scattering 2 hits and 2 walks over 8 innings. Al Kaline homered for DEA and Curt Blefary's first inning 2-run HR provided all of the Oriole runs. GAME THREE Baltimore 6, Detroit 3 The Tigers went up early on an Al Kaline 3-run HR but fell behind in the 5th when Bob Friend's challenge to pinch hitter Curt Blefary was answered with a 440-ft 3-run home run to center field. The Tigers had plenty of opportunities late but couldn't come back against BAA reliever Stu Miller, who pitched 2 scoreless innings in notching his 21st save. GAME FOUR Detroit 7, Baltimore 0 Hank Aguirre was in control the whole way as he went the distance in a 6-hit shutout. Norm Cash provided the big bang for the Tigers as he launched a rare pinch-hit grand slam off of reliever Ed Sukla in the 6th inning. Cash had another opportunity in the 8th with the bases jammed but fouled out to the catcher. Since this is Curt Blefary's final week in the SMILEY/PRESMILEY realm it is my last chance to honor the man with the nickname of "Clank" who unfortunately passed away in 2001 at a too-young age of 57. --- USFamily.Net - $8.25/mo! -- Highspeed - $19.99/mo! --- |
