Clete Boyer connected with a 'big fly' and Whitey Ford struck out 10 batters
at Memorial Stadium where the New York AL Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles
6 to 5.

Ford(7-12) pitched well for New York AL in their victory.  He was reached for
7 hits and no walks in 8 innings.  Baltimore made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Marcelino Lopez(11-17) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 4 runs and 8 hits
in 7 innings.  Baltimore's manager was impressed with Ford and his 10
strikeouts.  'It's tough to generate runs if you can't make contact with the
ball.'
