sept 5 Center fielder Tom Tresh slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 6 to 3 at Memorial Stadium. Sam McDowell(15-11) earned his pay with a solid performance for McDowell. He went 8 innings allowing 6 hits and 6 walks. Baltimore proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. McDowell got help from Hal Reniff who was credited with his 2nd save. Ed Sukla(1-3) was charged with the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter giving up 1 hit and no walks.
