Left fielder Tommy Harper hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI and Jim Maloney
was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as
the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Detroit Tigers by a score of 7 to 3 at
Crosley Field.
 
Maloney(1-0) was in control of the game from the outset.  He didn't allow
much, just 4 hits and 6 walks in 9 innings.  Cincinnati rapped out 12 hits
for the afternoon. 
 
Bob Friend(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He was knocked around, surrendering 7
runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
