Subject: Expos at Cubs Week 21

Cubs out homer the Expos by a 12 to 2 count but it only gains them a split.

Game 1

John Tudor tossed a complete game as the sizzling Chicago NL Cubs defeated the

ice-cold Montreal Expos by a score of 7 to 2 at Wrigley Field.

Tudor (12-10) pitched a solid game.  He went 9 innings and served up 11 hits

and no walks.  Montreal had 11 hits in the game while Chicago NL had 7, but

Chicago NL had the more timely hits.

Dennis Martinez (15-10) absorbed the loss.  He served up 3 gopher balls in 6

innings.

Game 2

At Wrigley Field the Montreal Expos were able to stop their 6 game losing

streak and easily handled the Chicago NL Cubs by the score of 7 to 3.

Bryn Smith (10-10) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win.  He

went 6 innings and served up 6 hits and no walks and surrendered 2

'round-trippers'.  Montreal had 7 hits for the night.

Greg Maddux (16-10) was the loser.  He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving up 5

hits and 4 walks. 'After the stretch we have been through lately, this

victory is especially sweet' offered Steve Bivens .  Now, we just have to make

this the norm - not the exception!

Game 3

Center fielder Joe Carter launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Scott Bankhead

pitched a 3 hitter as the Chicago NL Cubs defeated the Montreal Expos by the

score of 8 to 1 at Wrigley Field.

Carter had a good evening at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in

the 2nd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 6th inning and laced a

one-base hit in the 8th inning.  Chicago NL managed 10 hits in their victory.

Bankhead (9-5), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Bob

Forsch (1-8) absorbed the loss.  He allowed 4 homeruns in 7 innings of work.

Game 4

In an entertaining game at Wrigley Field the final score was the Montreal

Expos 6, the Chicago NL Cubs 3.

Nelson Santovenia enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He doubled in the 2nd

inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 6th inning and doubled

plating a run in the 8th inning.  Montreal had 9 hits for the afternoon.

The victory went to Juan Nieves (6-3) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.

Nieves got help from Tim Burke who was credited with his 20th save.  The loss

was charged to Greg Swindell (17-12).
