Previous message                 Next message Message #: 24908 Message from: Michael Tomeo Sent: Sep 13, 2011 Subject: boa@oaa This was a series of night and day, as in the first 2 were played last night and the remaining 2 played today.  Boston cruised in the first 2 and then got back to their usual luck in the last 2. game 1: This one was over before most had taken their seats. Sox opened with single, double, double, missed bp homer, and homer to jump to a 4-0  lead. They added 4 more in the 4th to blow it open. They went on to win 11-0. Take your pick for the hitting star for Boston. Randolph went 3-3 with 3 doubles (all 4-8 rolls) and 3 rbi's. Greenwell was 4-5 with 3 doubles and Bergman was 3-3 with 5 rbi's.  Clemens tossed 6 shutout innings running into trouble just once when HAL rolled his 6 column for 2 walks and a single to load the bases before getting McGwire to fly out to end the inning. Knudson pitched the last 3 for the vulture save. game 2: Chuck Cary took the hill for his first Boston start and fit right in immediately. He went 7 innings, allowed 10 hits,7 runs and 3 wild pitches and managed to get the win and he can thank the Oakland defense for that. Boston again jumped to the early lead with Kingery leading the game off with a homerun. boston added 2 more and led 3-0. A's got 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd to take a 6-3 lead and it was 7-5 going into the 7th inning. Ramirez and Greenwell were 2 quick outs (greenwell missing a single 1-14 chance) before it got ugly.  Walk, walk, wp, and the costly error led to the first run. That was followed by single, another wp, double, int walk before Bergman hit his 2nd 3 run homer of the series. Ramirez and Greenwell made up for their outs with singles and Hatcher hit a 3 run homer to cap 10 straight batters reaching and scoring. All 10 runs were unearned to the team but 9 were earned to pitchers. It was so bad that Rick Mahler pitched hit in the 8th and had an rbi single to cap the 16-7 win. Kingery was 4-6 and added 2 doubles to go with his lead off homer and Boggs also had 2 doubles. game 3: It all changes in a blink of an eye. Mike Boddicker pitched a perfect 5-7 inning but unfortunately that was way too late. He tossed a masterful 13 hitter in the first 4 innings as it was Oaklands turn to get 4-8's and 5-10's seemingly without end. Boston had tied it at 2 in the top of the 3rd on a Boggs single before McGwire hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the inning. The A's added 5 runs in the 4th to run away with a 9-3 win. Every A's starter had a hit and 7 of the 9 scored a run. game 4: Boston gets 2 in the first on 3 hits and a walk and decided that was enough offense as they got 1 hit the rest of the way. Mahler took a 2-1 lead into the 6th before Steinbach had a 2 run single (5-10 roll) to give the A's the lead. The A's tacked on one in the 7th and almost another in the 8th. 3  2 out singles (the middle one a single 1 chance) led to a runner being thrown out at the plate to end the inning. A's won 4-2.
