New manager attached. One single ray of sunshine in a dog meat season is being allowed to play Mike Schmidt in his last season in SMILEY. A six-time SMILEY MVP Mike will just miss 600 lifetime homeruns. It has been a real pleasure having him on the team. I’m sorry we couldn’t give him a championship, something he did accomplish IRL.
Game 1 Will Clark hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Montreal Expos in 11 innings by a score of 10 to 9 at CANDLESTICK PARK.
Both teams were tied at 8 runs apiece after nine innings. San Francisco won the game in the 11th inning. Clark stroked a single. Two outs later Kirt Manwaring came to bat and lined a single. Jose Uribe then hit a single making San Francisco victorious to the delight of the home town crowd. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
The win was credited to Don Robinson (7-3) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Frank Dipino (1-6) was charged with the loss in relief. Game 2 The San Francisco Giants edged the Montreal Expos at CANDLESTICK PARK by the score of 3 to 2.
San Francisco erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Kevin Mitchell led off and started the rally when he drew a walk. Two outs later Jose Uribe stepped in and he doubled. Fred Lynn then delivered a single. Lynn took second on the throw. Montreal had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Steve Cummings (1-0) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Cummings got help from Steve Bedrosian who was credited with his 12th save. Ted Power (0-1) was the loser in relief.
'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us tonight' Steve Bivens said. 'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.' Game 3 Don Robinson came through with a solid 9 innings and Will Clark had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Montreal Expos by the score of 8 to 1 at CANDLESTICK PARK .
Clark enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He doubled which brought home a run in the 1st inning, delivered a one-base hit plating a run in the 3rd inning, slapped a base-hit in the 6th inning and tripled which scored a run in the 7th inning. San Francisco finished with 13 hits in the victory.
The victory was credited to Robinson (8-3) who went the distance, allowing 1 run. Dennis Martinez (1-6) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many base runners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
'He had his 'A' game today,' Pat Carr said of Robinson. 'Very impressive performance.'
