Game 1 Orel Hershiser didn't allow a hit until the 7th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers bested the Montreal Expos 2 to 1 at DODGER STADIUM.
Hershiser (5-9) put on a good performance. He allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. The right-handed Hershiser had his no-hit bid broken up by Pete O'Brien who doubled with one out in the 7th inning. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.
The losing pitcher was Mark Gardner (0-3). 'Hershiser gave us exactly what we needed tonight.' Billy Vanson said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.' Game 2 19,952 fans were treated to a fine game at DODGER STADIUM as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Montreal Expos won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Montreal came out the victor in the 10th inning. After two were out Mike Felder drew a walk. Ron Karkovice stepped up next and he slapped a single. Terry Francona then stroked a single. Eddie Williams was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Montreal managed 9 hits in their victory.
Frank Dipino (2-8) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Andy McGaffigan recorded the save, his 3rd. The losing pitcher was Kevin Hickey (1-2) in relief. Game 3 Harold Reynolds had 2 base hits and Mike Morgan had a strong outing at DODGER STADIUM where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Montreal Expos in 11 innings by the score of 1 to 0.
The game was a scoreless tie after nine. Finally, Los Angeles pulled the game out in the 11th inning. Jesse Orosco drew a walk. Two outs later Reynolds came to bat and slapped a one-base hit resulting in a mighty exciting win for Los Angeles and the 26,269 home town fans in attendance. Los Angeles finished with 5 hits while Montreal ended up with 2.
The win was credited to Orosco (3-6) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. The losing pitcher was Jerry Reed (0-7) in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up 1 hit and 1 walk.
