New manager attached. A very nice 16-inning usage burner in game 3.
Game 1 Willie McGee had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Montreal Expos 10 to 3 at Busch Stadium.

The winning pitcher was Jim Clancy (2-3) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. Jim Acker recorded the save, his 1st. Tommy Greene (0-4) took the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
Mike Rescigno was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.' Game 2 Jose Deleon racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the St. Louis Cardinals pulled out a win over the Montreal Expos by a score of 4 to 2 at Busch Stadium.
St. Louis erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Vince Coleman started the inning off right when he laced a base-knock. Willie McGee struck out, unable to help the rally. Ray Lankford then blasted a two-run home run making St. Louis the winners and sending the 40,567 fans home happy. St. Louis finished with 11 hits while Montreal ended up with 8.

Game 3 Vince Coleman had 4 hits at Busch Stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Montreal Expos in 16 innings by the count of 5 to 4.
The score was tied at 4 after nine. St. Louis won it in the 16th inning. Ray Lankford drew a walk. Coleman was next and he tripled making St. Louis victorious to the delight of the home town crowd. Overall St. Louis out-hit Montreal 17 to 13.
Jose Dejesus (3-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Scott Ruskin (1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit without retiring a batter. Game 4 Chris Nabholz didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Montreal Expos defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3 to 2 at Busch Stadium.
Nabholz (1-2) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 3 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 1/3 innings dropping his ERA from 5.06 to 4.55. The left-handed Nabholz lost his no-hit bid when Ray Lankford doubled with one out in the 6th inning. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Mike Rescigno 'but it's losing the close ones that really hurt.'
