Game 1 At Jack Murphy Stadium the Montreal Expos were battered 6 to 1 by the San Diego Padres.
San Diego scored 5 runs in the decisive bottom of the 7th inning when they had 6 base hits. They would be enough to earn the win. San Diego finished with 13 hits while Montreal ended up with 4.
Ed Whitson (5-4) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Chris Nabholz (2-4) was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk. Game 2 Second baseman Harold Reynolds hit for the cycle and had 2 RBI as the San Diego Padres beat the Montreal Expos by a score of 9 to 1.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Reynolds. He tripled in the 1st inning, delivered a solo blast in the 3rd inning, lined a base-hit in the 5th inning and doubled plating a run in the 6th inning. San Diego finished with 14 hits while Montreal ended up with 5.
Bruce Hurst (5-2) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Joe Grahe (2-4) was the loser. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 5 innings. Game 3 Benito Santiago rocketed 2 homeruns as the San Diego Padres defeated the Montreal Expos by the score of 5 to 1 at Jack Murphy Stadium.
Eric Show (1-1) delivered a fine performance for San Diego . He went 6 innings allowing 6 hits and no walks. Show recorded 7 strikeouts seeing his ERA drop from 5.40 to 3.27. San Diego had 11 hits for the game and Montreal had 7.
Tommy Greene (0-9) was given the loss. He allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings. Game 4 In a game at Jack Murphy Stadium the Montreal Expos got by the San Diego Padres by the score of 4 to 1.
Montreal brought 3 runs across the plate in the 6th inning. The biggest moment was provided by Andres Galarraga who quieted the home crowd when he smacked a three-run homer. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Dennis Martinez (4-4) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Scott Ruskin got the save, his 5th. Storm Davis (0-4) absorbed the loss. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 walk.
The win by Montreal is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in recent days. Their record now stands at 15-38 - only 2-8 in their last ten games. With this loss, San Diego has a 4-6 record of late, 26-27 overall.
