The Los Angeles Dodgers got by the San Diego Padres in 12 innings at Jack
Murphy Stadium.  The final score was 6 to 4.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Los Angeles won the game in
the 12th inning.  Eddie Murray led off and got things going when he laced a
single.  After an out was recorded, Steve Farr came to bat and threw a pitch
that got away from the catcher.  Gerald Young then drew a walk.  Lenny Harris
stepped in and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Don Carman then threw a
wild pitch.  Kal Daniels joined his teammates in the uprising and singled.
Bob Melvin got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.
Tommy Herr then drew a walk.  Ruben Sierra followed, but he was set down on
strikes.  San Diego out-hit Los Angeles 11 to 7, but Los Angeles ended up
with more runs.
Mike Hartley(4-2) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Jay Howell earned
his 19th save.  Farr(5-2) took the loss in relief.

WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Tony Pena blocked the plate, saving a run!
What an evening for the San Diego Padres! They shellacked the Los Angeles
Dodgers pitching for 13 runs while Ed Whitson(8-8), with relief help from
Eric Show, surrendered 3 runs to Los Angeles.
The San Diego fans enjoyed the offense provided by Roberto Alomar.  He ripped
a base-hit in the 1st inning, ripped a one-base hit plating two runs in the
4th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 5th inning.  San Diego
out-hit Los Angeles for the game, 17 hits to 6.
Jim Deshaies(4-11) was hit with the loss.  He gave up 10 runs in 4 innings of
work.

Left fielder Kal Daniels left the yard and had 3 RBI at Jack Murphy Stadium as
the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the San Diego
Padres by the count of 5 to 4.
Los Angeles came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th
inning scoring 3 runs using 4 hits.  Jeff Huson led off and started the
attack as he banged out a single.  Ruben Sierra came next and he doubled.
Daniels then laced a base-hit.  Lenny Harris was up next and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Ron Kittle dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
Gerald Young added to the rally and drew a walk.  Eddie Murray stepped up to
the plate and he ripped a single.  Tony Pena followed, but he was set down on
strikes.  Los Angeles rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Tim Crews(3-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Crews got help from
Jay Howell who earned his 20th save.  Craig Lefferts(3-4) was charged with
the loss in relief.
Mike Tomeo was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
this afternoon'
