Left fielder Kal Daniels left the yard and had 3 RBI at Jack Murphy Stadium as
the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the San Diego
Padres by the count of 5 to 4.
Los Angeles came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th
inning scoring 3 runs using 4 hits. Jeff Huson led off and started the
attack as he banged out a single. Ruben Sierra came next and he doubled.
Daniels then laced a base-hit. Lenny Harris was up next and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Ron Kittle dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
Gerald Young added to the rally and drew a walk. Eddie Murray stepped up to
the plate and he ripped a single. Tony Pena followed, but he was set down on
strikes. Los Angeles rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Tim Crews(3-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Crews got help from
Jay Howell who earned his 20th save. Craig Lefferts(3-4) was charged with
the loss in relief.
Mike Tomeo was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
this afternoon'
