Second baseman Pedro Gonzalez had 2 base hits as the Cincinnati Reds defeated
the New York NL Mets by the score of 3 to 1 at Crosley Field.
 
Cincinnati won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2
runs using 4 hits.  Leo Cardenas started the inning off right when he hit a
single.  After an out was recorded, Tommy Harper came to the plate and ripped
a base-knock.  Manny Jimenez then delivered a base-hit plating a run.
Jimenez took second on the throw.  Marty Keough struck out, unable to help
the rally.  Gonzalez came to the plate and delivered a single scoring the
final run of the inning.  Cincinnati out-hit New York NL for the game, 13
hits to 7. 
 
Sammy Ellis(1-0) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Bill Henry was credited with his 1st save.  Don Lee(0-1) was charged
with the loss in relief.

Bob Tillman had 2 base hits as the Cincinnati Reds staged a dramatic comeback
over the New York NL Mets by a score of 4 to 3 at Crosley Field.
 
Cincinnati won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.
Manny Jimenez led off the inning for Cincinnati when he drew a walk.  Deron
Johnson stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.  Tommy Harper got
his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.  After another out, Frank
Robinson stepped in and he banged out a single which scored a run.  Robinson
took second on the throw.  Ken Boyer stepped into the box and was walked
intentionally to load the bases.  Tillman added to the rally and laced a
one-base hit making Cincinnati the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration.  Cincinnati rapped out 8 hits for the night. 
 
Sammy Ellis(2-0) allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Claude Raymond(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He
surrendered 2 runs and 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Claude Osteen(1-0) delivered a fine performance for New York NL.  He was
reached for 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3 innings.  Osteen got help from
Bill Wakefield who pitched great and earned his 1st save. 
 
Bob Bruce(0-1) took the loss in relief.  He surrendered 3 hits and 1 walk in 2

Deron Johnson blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds defeated
the New York NL Mets by a score of 3 to 0 at Crosley Field.
 
Johnson helped send the fans home happy.  He ripping a solo home run in the
1st inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 3rd of the season) in the 3rd
inning and delivered a base-hit in the 7th inning.  After the 3rd inning,
neither team was able to score. 
 
Chris Short(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Short was helped out by Sammy Ellis who recorded his 1st
