A  key series tightens things up in the AL East as Boston takes 3 of 4 to move into a tie for first.  After a well played game 1, things were generally ugly the rest of the series.

game 1: Things didn't start off well for boston. Reed led off with a bp homer but being a W settled for a single. Fermin flew out on a hit and run and Boston stranded 2 runners. In the bottom of the inning, Fernandez singled with one out and then went to third on a successful hit and run. A sac fly brought him in. A potential big inning was thwarted with a runner thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Boston loaded the bases with 2 outs in the 2nd and Fermin cleared them with a grand slam... wait a sec, another W hitter so just a 2 run single. Reed finally got his homer in the 7th (off his card of course) to make the final Boston 3-1.

game 2: Boston got 1 in the second but could have had more but Scioscia got a 19 on the bp homer split. Toronto managed a 1 on their bp homer split in the bottom of the inning to tie it. They added 3 in the 3rd and 5th and cruised to a 9-4 win despite only out hitting Boston 13-11. Scioscia was the only Boston player not to get a hit while Felix and Carter failed to get hits for Toronto. Stieb improved to 17-2.

game 3: In a reversal of game 2, Boston got 6 3rd inning runs and never looked back in a 13-4 blowout. Boston banged out 18 hits with 6 starters getting at least 2 each. The only starter not to get a hit...just like game 2, Mike Scoscia. Olerud and Lee each had 3 of the Jays 9 hits.

game 4: Boston got 4 in the 2nd on single, double, single, walk, single sac fly to jump to another big early lead. WIth Tom Bolton pitching you knew he was going to serve up some homers (even though he should give up 1 every 21 innings). A 3 run bp homer made it 4-3 by the end of the 2nd. Teams traded runs in the 3rd (yet another Toronto hr). Boston added 1 in the 5th and Quintana hit a 3 run homer in the 6th to put Boston up 9-4. After the first 4 Jays reached in the 7th, Gray came on and gave up an rbi grounder and an rbi single before getting 2 strikeouts to end the inning. Gruber homered in the bottom of the 8th to cut the lead to 1 but Brunansky homered in the top of the 9th (capping a 5-5 game) to make it 10-8. Game ended with Fernandez getting an 8 on a game tying 1-6 hr chance.

Final tally Boston 30 runs on 53 hits  4 hr  32 LOB
Toronto 22 runs of 44 hits  6 hr  33 LOB
