Center fielder Mickey Mantle touched them all as the New YorkAL Yankees beat
the Chicago AL White Sox by a score of 8 to 5.

New York AL had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits.
Mantle led off and started the rally when he drew a walk.  Felix Mantilla
stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a single.  After another out,
Elston Howard struck out, unable to help the rally.  Johnny Blanchard
followed and he was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Nellie Fox
stepped into the box and lined a base-hit knocking home two runners.  Bobby
Richardson kept the inning going and slapped a single scoring the final run
of the inning.  Both teams finished the game with 13 hits.

Steve Hamilton(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Hamilton got help from Hal Reniff who was credited with his 1st save.  Hoyt
Wilhelm(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He got hit hard, allowing 5
hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
