Vern Law allowed just 3 hits and Bill Virdon had 2 base hits as the Pittsburgh
Pirates outscored the San Francisco Giants 3 to 1.

Pittsburgh tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with the help of 3
hits. Bill Mazeroski led off and started the rally when he singled. Virdon
came to the plate and slapped a base-hit. Law got his turn next, but he was
a strikeout victim. Denis Menke followed and he lined a single to load the
bases. Jim Fregosi stepped into the box and drew a walk which plated a run.
Roberto Clemente kept the rally going and would ground out scoring the final
run of the inning. Pittsburgh managed 7 in their victory.

Law(1-2) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Gaylord Perry(0-2) was
charged with the loss. Despite losing, he struckout 11 Pittsburgh batters in
7 innings.

Pittsburgh's manager was very impressed with his pitcher, Law, 'He had
unusually good pitch placement tonight. It was almost unfair - but a
beautiful game to watch from where I sat'.
