Subject: White Sox take 3 of 4 from O's

Tom McCraw comes through with a pinch-hit triple off Harvey Haddix to win game 1.
Lee Thomas goes 5 for 5 to allow Ray Herbert to survive a shaky start.
Boog Powell's glove turns to stone and Joel Horlen throws a 2-hitter.
Gary Peters' troubles continue as Baltimore belts him and Billy Hoeft about.

At Memorial Stadium the Chicago AL White Sox came in to the game in quite a
tailspin, but they were able to snap their 7 game slide and outscored the
Baltimore Orioles 4 to 1.

Chicago AL won the game with a rally in the top of the 8th inning with 3 runs
utilizing 2 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Don Buford began the
Chicago AL spurt when he laced a one-base hit.  One out later, Floyd Robinson
came to the plate and was walked intentionally.  Tommy McCraw then tripled
plating two runs.  Harvey Haddix then tossed a pitch that the catcher
mis-handled scoring the final run of the inning.  Both teams ended up with 6
on the night.

The winning pitcher was Billy Hoeft(1-2) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an
inning. Hoyt Wilhelm recorded the save, his 1st.  The loss was charged to
Haddix(3-1) in relief.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 3 runs
in 2 innings.
