At Yankee Stadium, the New York AL faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Jack Morris(9-7) finally bested his New York AL counterpart, Andy Hawkins(2-2), by the score of 4 to 0.
Minnesota scored 2 runs in the decisive 3rd inning. That was all Morris needed. Minnesota managed only 6 hits on the night.
David West earned his 3rd save. Hawkins was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 1 walk.
