Kevin Tapani didn't allow a hit until the 8th inning and first baseman Kent Hrbek blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in 10 innings 2 to 1 at The Skydome.
The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Minnesota won the game in the 10th inning. Dale Sveum doubled. Stan Javier stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Hrbek came up and he lined a single. Chili Davis followed and he stroked a single. Mike Timlin then unleashed a wild pitch. Minnesota finished with 9 hits while Toronto ended up with 3.
Rick Aguilera(3-0) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. The right-handed Tapani lost his chance for a no-hitter when Kelly Gruber singled with one out in the 8th inning. The losing pitcher was Mike Flanagan(3-2) in relief. He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 2/3 of an inning.
