The Old Sox showed up for the first 2 1/2 games before they came back to this year and ended up with a split. Hal was his usual cruel self with the splits. Boston missed 2 1-19 doubles in the same inning. Boston's middle infield were both 2's and Milwaukee's both 3's, yet one team was perfect on x plays while the other gave up 4 hits. No need to guess which was which.
game 1: By the 2nd inning, Boston had 4 hits, 3 doubles and 2 runs. 2 more doubles led to 3 runs in the 4th and Quintana had a 3 run homer in the 8th to cap the scoring. Meanwhile Ojeda tossed a 6 hit complete game shutout as Boston won9-0. Major disappointment Quintana went 4-5 with 5 rbi to raise his average to .228. Jacoby had half of the Brewers hits.
game 2: This one was over early. Mo Vaughn's 2 run homer highlighted a 4 run first. His rbi double was part of a 3 run 2nd. Milwaukee finally got on the scoreboard in the 4th with a pair. Brewers added some late runs to make the final 9-5. Boston out hit Milwaukee 18-12 as every starter had at least 1 hit (3 had 3 hits).
game 3: An intentional walk to Vaughn in the 3rd backfired on Milwaukee. Brunansky walked to load the bases and then Phil Plantier cleared them with a bp grand slam. Speiers hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. Burks rbi single in the 4th gave Boston a 5-1 lead. Then the bats went cold.. for the rest of the series. Milwaukee scored 4 runs with 2 outs in the 5th to tie the game. Stayed that way until the 10th. Speiers led off with a double and stole third. The next 2 batters madeouts before yet another 6 column hit brought in the winner. Navarro pitched all 10 innings to get the win.
game 4: Boston's top of the first... walk, missed bunt, double play. Milwaukee's.... walk, bunt, single, run. Stayed that score until the 7th when Quintana hit a 2 run homer to give Boston the lead. 2 walks and a single inthe bottom of the inning tied it up. There would be no drama in the last at bat this time. 3 batters, 3 rolls on the pitchers card and 3 singles and the game was over. The winning hit was a hit and run single.
Boston is now 12-22 in one run games.
