MAY 11 Shortstop Bobby Richardson had 2 base hits as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Washington Senators by a score of 6 to 2 at D.C. Stadium. Mel Stottlemyre(5-2) gave a fine effort for New York AL. He allowed 5 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. New York AL rapped out 10 hits for the night. Dean Chance(6-2) was the losing pitcher. McDowell(3-3) had a solid outing for New York AL. He went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 hits and 6 walks. McDowell chalked up 8 strikeouts reducing his ERA from 3.38 to 3.02. The left-handed McDowell had his no-hit bid broken up by Vic Davalillo who singled with one out in the 6th inning. New York AL had just 6 hits for the night. McDowell got help from Hal Reniff who earned his 5th save. Steve Ridzik(1-3) was charged with the loss in relief. New York AL now has a record of 18-19. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Washington is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record of 19-18.
