Catcher Elston Howard smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the New YorkAL
Yankees defeated the Washington Senators by the score of 14 to 6 at D.C.
Stadium.

Howard was really in 'the zone'.  He lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, smacked a single in
the 5th inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 5th of the season) in the
9th inning.  New York AL dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different
innings.

The win went to Al Downing(4-3) who allowed 6 runs in 7 innings. The loss was
charged to Bennie Daniels(4-1).  'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit
my bat,' Howard said. 'Whenever I would swing, the ball found the sweet
spot.'

The New York AL Yankees defeated the slumping Washington Senators by a score
of 6 to 3 at D.C. Stadium.

Mickey Mantle had a big day with his bat.  He cracked a two-run shot (his 16th
