Jim Bunning mowed down 11 New York AL batters as the Detroit Tigers defeated
the New York AL Yankees in 13 innings by the score of 2 to 1 at Tiger
Stadium.

Neither pitching staff had allowed a run after the regulation nine innings.
Finally, Detroit pulled the game out in the 13th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Joe Adcock drew a walk.  Jerry Lumpe stepped up next and he smacked
a single.  After another out, Tony Conigliaro stepped up to the plate and he
delivered a base-hit resulting in an exciting win for Detroit and a wild
post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Detroit finished with just 6
hits in the victory.

The win was credited to Ron Kline(2-1) who went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing no
runs. Hal Reniff(2-1) absorbed the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run and 2
hits in 2/3 of an inning.
